Course Overview

Public history is not the exclusive purview of experts; rather, it serves as the interface between history and the public, embodying the very process by which citizens, institutions, schools, and local communities collaboratively construct and share historical meaning. This course examines how the public continuously encounter historical events and their interconnected manifestations in their everyday lives, looking beyond textbooks and academic studies to explore museums, memorials, urban spaces, travel, and mass media.

Learning Objectives

Through this course, students will explore the diverse forms of public history practiced in South Korea via real-world case studies, cultivating the capacity to link them with our present-day lives.
