Birth of the Examination People
Course Introduction
This course explores Korean society through the lens of examinations by examining the social changes related to various examinations from the past to the present. It explores and interprets the impact of examinations on society and individuals in Korea and the unique meaning that examinations have in Korean society.
Course Structure
This course consists of 10 weeks of lecture. Each week’s lecture consists of 3 to 4 videos depending on the topics of the lecture. The course includes non-video learning materials such as quizzes and supplementary reading materials to help students organize and review the content of the lecture. To complete the course requirements each week, learners are required to watch the lecture videos and finish all learning activities.

Kyung-sook Lee
Kyung-sook Lee is a lecturer at the Department of Education, Teachers College, Kyungpook National University. Her publication includes, Birth of the Examination People (2017), “Emergence and Circulation of the Model People in the Period of Japanese Imperialism” (2007), Peureiri ui kyosaron (2000), and Kyosa neun jiseongin ida (2001).
