The Global Korean Studies course

Yonsei University’s Institute for Global Korean Studies conducts Global Korean Studies to meet the needs of Korean history consumers in Korea and abroad, contributing to a deeper understanding of Korean history and humanistic communication.

By addressing the lives and historical experiences of Koreans in the context of world history, we reconstruct Korean history as “Korean history connected to the world” and “Korean history as universal history.”

1st Year: Korean History Through World History

Provides a basis to understand Korean history from the perspective of world history

2nd Year: Korean History Through Life and Culture

Understand the values of respecting diversity through a multilayered experience of microscopic and individual lives

3rd Year: Korean History Through Space and the Environment

Discuss the problems or a developmentalist narrative or history and the possibility or a coexisting and sustainable life

4th Year: Korean History Through Institutions and Thought

Explore the value of peace and reconciliation through the negotiation and collision of different thoughts, identities, and systems

5th Year: Korean History Through Debates and Tasks

Synthesize research methodologies of Korean history through the reexamination of major subjects of Korean history by focusing on issues and debates
